Differences Between Foot Healthcare, Podiatry and Chiropody

Foot Healthcare:

Foot healthcare focuses on basic foot care, such as nail trimming, callus removal and maintaining general foot hygiene. It is often preventative and aimed at maintaining healthy feet.

Podiatry:

Podiatry is a more advanced discipline that deals with diagnosing and treating medical conditions affecting the feet, ankles and lower limbs. This includes biomechanical assessments, orthotics and treating conditions like plantar fasciitis or diabetic foot problems.

Chiropody:

Chiropody is similar to podiatry, but historically, chiropodists primarily provided basic foot care services. In modern practice, chiropody and podiatry are often used interchangeably, but podiatry generally involves a broader scope of treatments.

Bethany Frowen, Podiatrist – BSc Hons Podiatry

I have 14 years’ experience across the NHS and private sectors, with a specialist interest in wound care and nail surgery.

I treat routine podiatry problems such as corns, calluses, and nail pathologies.

I offer off-the-shelf orthotic therapy when required, combined with a hands-on and visual biomechanical assessment.

I take a holistic approach, believing that the body should be treated as a whole, not just the presenting pathology. This may involve working with different disciplines and practitioners to ensure the best outcome.

I am a keen runner and regularly attend the gym.

I also take part in the local community panto every year. Oh no, she doesn’t!

Please get in touch if you have any concerns about your foot health or lower limb problems.

I am a qualified Foot Health Practitioner and currently in my second year of a BSc degree in Podiatry. I focus on providing routine foot care to help people maintain healthy feet and mobility. My work includes nail cutting, corn and callus removal, and managing conditions like verrucas and fungal infections. As I progress in my podiatry studies, I aim to expand my skills and treat more complex foot and lower limb issues. Outside of work, I’m married with three children and enjoy singing, running a Brownie group, and woodcraft projects like spoon carving.
